Max tow weight is officially listed at 7,700 for a Cayenne S. I am thinking of buying a 27 foot bowrider. It weighs 6,200. Figure trailer weighs 1,500. So I am already at 7,700 weight dry. With full fuel and some equipment, I am 1,0000 pounds over.

2 questions:

1) If I am towing 6 miles each way to launch the boat, is being 500 to 1,000 pounds overweight a big deal?

2) Would I be crazy to tow this boat from Connecticut to Naples, FL every year? For this 1,350 mile trek I would run the boat with minimal fuel to reduce the weight as much as possible

IMO...it would be acceptable to tow the 6 miles for local launches. you must keep in mind that insurance will likely not cover boat or car in the case of an accident as you are beyond the towing limits...the ins company will void the claim instantly

also pulling with the chayenne is likely to put a lot of stress on the tranny/motor...the chayenne seems to be unreliable already idk how much worse it will be with increased stress on the vehicle

i would say abs no for the florida trek...you really need something that can handle the pulling power...one thing to keep in mind is its not just pulling its also stopping/control of the vehicle that is compromised...you must be able to safely stop the vehicle on the highway etc.

I would not even consider it. If you can afford that SUV and a boat, you can afford at least a used 1/2 Ton truck, or better yet a 3/4 Ton.

An $8k used 3/4 Ton truck is far cheaper than a new tranny + labor for the porsche. Don't be silly. Get a truck....

If your in CT look in the CPBA forum. There was a nice dually in there for 8K deisel with low milage.

Very nice rig. Older but well taken care of and has a 7.3 liter in it.
