Default Could you build a 100% non-merc boat?

With Merc's stranglehold on the boating market, could you theoretically build a 100% non-merc boat?

Ive poked around looking at some of the diesel performance boats and they seem to have accomplished it but Im wondering about the rest of the crowd. Seems like merc makes just about every nut and bolt you'd need.

Engines and drives, sure. But what about all the rest of the rigging? Trim pumps and such...
Other than resale, it'd seem that deleting mercs number from speed dial would sure save a lot of money in building a custom boat.

yes, very easily. just takes a little research. I wish Volvo was still making their 600HP package.

You can and you'll probably be better off.....

Funny thing is I have actually already thought about that question myself.

I think Ilmor holds value pretty well.

The indy is new and Ive heard about problems but haven't seen any whining on the boards, but if there have been problems Ilmors kept them quiet.

You can go Livorsi for controls and gauges, and imco for almost everything else.

although the Ilmor does/Can use a Merc Impeller from an availability standpoint I like that
