Default new to boating and need advice

I have 95 baja 188 islander with a new 5.7 mercruiser with alpha one drive. Thru hull exhaust. On the boat right now is a Quick Silver Mirage SS 14 5/8 23p the boat only goes to 3900 and 4 to 4100 trimmed up. Sorry dont have the speed didnt have gps with me. I had my gps with me when i was breaking the motor in and at 3000 rpm i was doing 36mph. My wot rpm is 4400 to 4800. I was thinking the prop is to big. the boat weighs 2800. Thanks for any help.

I think you'll be better off with a 19p. Try the mirage, or mirage plus. The mirage will spin a little higher rpm than the mirage plus (both are 3 blade props). There are tons of boats out there that size. Find a buddy, or maybe someone at work that will let you borrow theirs, or look on craigslist sir.

Also, when the motor is NOT running, push the throttle to the wide open position, take the flame arrestor/air filter off, and look down the carb to make sure the throttle blades are perfectly verticle (wide open).

Well the Raptor 19 pitch what a difference. Boat jumps out of the water went to 4200 rpm but i was at maximum capacity of weight 6 people and I left the trim all the way down. I dont even have to have it full throttle to get on plane with all them people in it. I am going to try it with 2 people and try trimming the motor some to see how it runs. What do you guys think. Thanks again.
