Default Drilling a 2.5 inch hole in a stringer

Is this do-able with out wrecking the intergrity of the stringer. I was going to put beauty rings around the hose going threw the stringer to re-enforce it. Whats the best way about this?

I would think it depended on the location on the stringer. Was there a hose already going through it and you are just going to make the hole a little larger?
