Default 496 HO - hours above 4000 rpm

Have an opportunity to get my hands on a 496 HO with 574 hours running time. When hooking up the test computer i tells 150 hours under 1000 rpm and 65 hours in the range 4000-5000 rpm. Are these 65 hours of high rpm something to be concerned about?

The computer also mention something about 10 hours of "knock control" or similar. What is this?

Sounds like it had the snot run out of it. That is 10 hours of hitting the knock sensor and going into detonation control, problaby caused by crappy gas.

I agree with Eddie, 10 HOURS of knock sensor time is a bit excessive.

With 65 hours above 4k, on motors that have 574 hours total, you're looking at a little over 11% of the time above 4k.

4000-4200 for a fair amount of time wouldn't run me off, but therein is the problem with that broad of a range. It would be nice to know just how long they were above 4800.

But again, I think the kicker is the knock sensor time.

That's the nice thing about Diacom SW scans. They are broken down by 500 RPM increments. So, you can tell the diff between 4001 RPMs and 4999 RPMs.

65 above 4k?? That's less than half a summer for me. Just less than 16 run days of boating.

The knock sensors should be checked at the block to make sure you don't have corrosion causing that code.

If the code is "real" than I'd say sumthin aint' good.

Shame on you Eddie for not answering my email!!

Just kidding, I figured it out and I know you're one of the guys who has managed to stay way busy.

That's true, it still runs.

Thanks for your input guys. I'll see what else I can dig up about this machine.
