I have a 1994 Regal with a 4.3 L Merc (Alpha 1 Gen II).
I have recently restored this boat from the hull up. It runs well, but has one big issue.
I have full function in Forward (runs very well). When i shift into reverse it shifts well and runs/propells fine at idle speed. As soon as I try to give it a little gas, it stalls (a real pain at the docks). I would have initially thought it was the shift cables or shift interrupter switch (the switch may still be the issue not sure, but i don't understand why). Like i said it does shift into reverse w/o issue and forward works very well. When in neutral, i can rev the engine just fine in the reverse direction.
I am stumped. Thoughts?

One of two things. Its either your shift cable needs to be replaced or its out of adjustment. I would probably go with the out of adjustment. If at all possible can you watch the linkage on the engine move when you shift into fwd or reverse? If so watch it when you go from into reverese to throttle and see if the shift interup is being moved when you throttle.
