I have a 24' Python with glued down carpet on the floor. I have to remove the carpet and cut the floor to get the fuel tank out. I don't really like carpet in boats so I don't want to put carpet back in it. Does anybody know of a chemical or what can be done to remove the glue residue from the floor so I can re-gel coat the floor or non skid paint it?

DuPont 3812 will work, you have to work at it tho a bit.. also 3m makes a adhesive remover that works good, use a plastic putty knife to get the major stuff off the follow with a wetted out rag with the solvent..

Assuming it is a standard contact adhesive, wilsonart 121 is the shiznit, you have to use it correctly. Dont just rub away like laquar thinner, wipe it on, let it sit and then with a dry cloth wipe it off. it will ball up the adhesive and it comes of clean as opposed to smearing all over the place. The stuff flat out rocks. Wilsonart is a brand of laminate like formica so look for it that way, home depot may be able to get it. west coast and st louis EB Bradley carries it.

The best stuff I have ever used is "MultiStrip" It will not harm gelcoat or fiberglass. No fumes and skin friendly. Allow 24 hours to work and easy clean up. It is readily available in the USA from paint , hardware and Home Depot.

I have a friend that replaced the carpet in his boat 2 summers ago and had a horrible time with the old glue left on the floor. This was what he ended up doing and it worked really well!
He went down to the local Ace Hardware to see what they might have for the job and came across an attachment that is shaped like a thick putty knife or gasket scraper that connects to a sawsall. If I remember correctly, it was about 5-6 inched wide. It pulled the glue right up. Good luck!

Ive used goo gone and a heat gun with good results. I've also used lacquer thinner and heat, but that may not be a great idea based on the flammability... Depending on the glue, heat will work wonders with a plastic putty knife.
