Default Thru hull sealant

Im in the process of replacing the wood in the transom an two stringers. It looks like the damage came from holes drilled thru the transom not being sealed properly. It appeared to be silicone originally. Is there a type of silicone or urethane sealant recomended. Its amazing the damage water does in a short time period.
