I'm considering a boat that should tow at about 8500-9000 lbs. I looked at the hitch on my Navigator and it has a 7000lbs/700lbs tongue rating. With a load distributing hitch that goes up to 8700/870 lbs. I'm thinking I should get the load distributing setup. any thoughts?

I just bought one for the same reason (on a smaller scale). I have a friend who was towing a 26ft cobalt with an 'X'. He swears by the distributing hitch. Set it up properly!!! You can actually unload the rear wheels of your tow vehicle enough to spin the wheels excellerating or pulling up a ramp. Also an improperly set up dist hitch will interfere with your trailer brakes.

All in all a grat idea, done correctly.

I had a similar situation with my 2001 GMC Yukon towing a Formula 303.
I opted for a heavier hitch from Draw-Tite, handles 12,000 Lbs. without being a weight-distributing setup. I love the way it tows, and you can really feel the surge brakes come on (I think it stops better towing the boat than without). It depends on what hitch you can get for your Navigator.

My trailer has a very long tongue (no comments). The weight distibuters Ive seen attatch to the "A" part of the trailer (the beams that go back and away from center beam toward the fenders. I dont see how it would attatch to mine unless the load bars were 3 or 4 feet long.

Go to www.draw-tite.com. Look under Hitches/ Weight Distributing/ and then there's an option for a pole tongue adaptor. It's a "T" that mounts to a straight tongue and acts like the "A" part of the frame.

Sorry about that. I have the same situation, really could use the setup, but am still putting it off. "See, I'm not the only one" isn't really a good excuse, but it can work in a pinch..

Does the load distrib hitch reduce turning radius or reduce the truck and trailers ability to "flex" over the top edge of a steep ramp? Does it take longer to hook up the trailer?

What about the pole tongue adopter, does it allow for the hookup of sway controls in addition to the weight distributing draw bars?
