Default Bilge painting

Replacing stringers and transom. I was recomended to use epoxy resin. I would like to sand and finish the whole bilge and transom area. I have painted autos in the past but I have no idea what finishing materials are compatible with epoxy resin. Normally I would use a urethane Primer surfacer then top coat with a single or two stage urethane. Would gel goat be a better alternative for build, sanding and duribility?

you can use anything but poly or vinylester based products. Gel coat will not work over epoxy. I use PPG's single stage Concept and it works well.

Dave, wouldn't he be able to use duratec primer and block it flat then top coat it with imron or ppg's concept paint?

Is the ppg a top coat? I am going to need something to fill and sand prior to top coating.

What can I use as a filler or primer surfacer to level the fiberglass prior to top coating.

I repainted my bilge this year and a new producy from Interlux, called Perfection. It is a little less expensive than Awl Grip and you don't need a respirator. It turned out great, snow white and easy to come by...west marine.

It is hard a nails and very hard to scratch. I could not be happier.

I have had my bilge done for 8-9 years now. Still looks almost perfect... It took a pint this year to make it perfect. Goes on with a brush and roller and looks like it was sprayed!

I know that other products work, but why mess around trying when there is a proven product that stands the test of time?
