I have an 85 Scorpion with a 5.7L mercruise 4 barrel carb. My starter broke about 2 months ago and I just got her back up and running yesterday, when I started it up the motor immediately revved up to 3,000rpms so I closed the throttle by hand and as soon as I let go it went back up to 3,000. I took the carb off and it is all gunked up, but as I was taking it off the front right mounting hole broke off, it was cracked all the way through and fell off. Next the exhaust ports don't open up, so a long story still kinda long, I've decided to get a new carb. I am new to the world of carbs so I need some help. Do I need to get an exact replacement, or if I go for a Holley or another aftermarket brand what CFM do I want to look for?
Thanks for any help

MY opinion is if you are not going to upgrade anything, stick with the Quadrajet. It will offer superior fuel economy compared to a Holley. If you are making changes to increase performance, go with a Holley.
Just my opinion.....
