I am looking to get a Cruiser style boat to keep at a marina for a so called summer cottage. I was looking at Sea Rays and Silvertons in the 35'-39' Range. I stumbled across the 380 SS and it appears to fall into a better category for my lifestyle.

I assume some people on this board have owned them, what is the good and bad on these boats.
I have seen one thread on here during my search.

Years between 1991-1994. It seems there are a few good deals on those years. Something that needs a little TLC preferably. I would like to customize it myself.
I have been to that forum and seem like a bunch of great guys, but it is like going to the Apache or Cigarette forum on here. Brand loyalty is strong there.

From my limited experience:
They ride pretty good and have a decent amount of room, but not in the same category as a real "cruiser" in my opinion.
I also never liked the design of the rear seat and hatch, that you have to climb over to get in the cockpit.

PM thumper38. He has a 370 Searay that he is putting up for sale. I don't know anything else about it. The boat is at LOTO.

I thought about the same thing as they seamed like they may be a better fit for lake boating if you don't plan on staying in it a lot. If your going to put money and fix it up you would come out a lot better with a sundancer if you try to sell. I ended up getting a 1997 33' Sundancer. Used it for 3 years and got my money back out of it. I think there is a very small market for the 380. I looked at a 30' Cruiser Aria that was the same concept as the sunsport but too small inside.

If you're using it as a "summer cottage", you want a Sundancer, not a SS. The Searay Sundancer has no wasted space, every square inch of the boat has a purpose, all sizes. The SS is more of an all around boat, bigger cockpit, but if you want a good sleep on boat, the Sundancer is the better choice. My opinion, hopefully it helps.

I agree buy a sundancer as it has more amenities and is easier to resell. I has a 37 and it was fine for a weekend boat.

Formula makes a better SS line IMO. The 330 Formula is more usable than the 380 Sea Ray. They can also be had for cheaper, are cheaper to store / trailer / whatever and in general are more common.

the 380 was pretty much a flop for Sea Ray. The Sundancer line is better all around. The Formula PC line is == to the Sundancer line except the PC's ride better IMO.

If you use the boat more as a day boat with limited overnight use, the SS line is the way to go. the single level outside area makes it nicer. If you plan on many nights out per year, or extended stays (weekends or longer) the sundancer / PC lines are more suitable.
