how dose one become certified to survey boats?

NAMS www.namsglobal.org or SAMS www.marinesurvey.org are the 2 most credible certifications and 90% of banks want to see either of those accredidations on the surveys of boats they finance.
To be come certified takes alot of time and quite a bit of $$$$ to become certified. There is a tremendous amout of technical knowledge needed to become a surveyor.
Otherwise every Tom, Dick and Harry would be doing it.

You should pass that info onto the guy that surveyed one of my last boats. Or I hope he reads this (he is on this site) I must of had Tom or Harry, or was his name...

If the survey report you receive is not at least 15-20 pages of detailed information, photos & hull rubbing you are getting a 1/2 azz survey.

There is also ABYC certification but anyone who buys enough Cracker Jack boxes can get certified by them. That is also why most banks will not accept that accredidation.
