Default Oil/power Steering Cooler

Im running a 502 and with there being so many brands/styles to choose from with oil/steering coolers Ive gone mad trying to make a decision on which one to put my money on... Id like to get a few opinions on what others have had luck with.

Is this Chris?

When I dressed my two 502/415hp long blocks I bought 3x18 oil coolers from teague and a small stock Merc power steering cooler since the power steering was original. So far so good. Maybe a little overkill, but I was planning turning them into 500hp's later.

I was thinking about the oil/steering cooler combination this morning and I thought to myself..........what if it developed a leak and started dumping power steering fluid into the oil. Not sure if thats possible, but maybe.

I would love to remove the oil coolers all together, do you think todays oils would allow that in a 500hp + motor?

I used the EMI combo 3" cooler, Hardin has one that looks good also. If the engine is stock the 2" should work fine.

It wouldn't matter. Water into the oil would be much more a problem. PS fluid is just light weight oil so it would dilute a little but not much.

No my name is not Chris, thanks for all the info. unfortunately I threw away the coolers that came with the box of parts when I bought this boat and after taking it out on the water without coolers it didnt take long to figure out its a must...PS fluid was boiling and smoke was thick thick thick in the engine hatch.

I know the confusion, most mercruiser stock oil lines came with the ends preflaired with the coolers inverted so if your lines are preflared and your going to reuse them make sure whatever cooler you buy has the inverted flare.if your going to run new lines ( braided or otherwise )make sure your new coolers have a standard thread for your new fittings. It will save you added expense and headackes trying to cobble up adapters that will most certanly leak.
I bought an aftermarket oil filter adapter with intensions of using my same lines and coolers. the filter adapter had standard pipe threads and my lines and coolrs had flared and inverted flare conections. I had to buy all new lines and coolers to complete the project and that got real expensive on a twin motor setup.I have two stock merc 3x18 oil/ powersteering cooler combos if your interested.
