I wanted to like the first one the most, but I ended up liking the 2nd one better. I think the 2nd one looks better up close, and I agree... I think the first one is too low for the lines of the boat.
Have you thought about getting rid of the yellow in the flag, and taking the yellow chunk out of the upswing, starting it with blue and fading it to black? Exact same scheme, but fade the old yellow upswing, and start with blue, and eliminate the yellow from the flag...
Either way, I like deleting whatever that mess is up by the bow...
