Merry Christmas everyone. Does anyone have any pictures of the World Championships held in New Zealand in 1986?

The start of first race: On the lead Gentry-that won- the local driver Sutherland, Molinari with him Falcon cat of 40' aluminum powered with 2 Lamborghini,Sal Magluta, the Italian Bardelle with a cat 38' aluminum Cougar built under license in Italy by Stain with 2 turbo diesel Isotta Fraschini, the Japanese Kobayashi and the Italian Gioffredi then win the Worlds.
Bardelle was the one that was more competitive of the fleet in Auckland getting a second behind Gentry in the first race and winning the second well.
The retire in the third race took away the chance to win the Worlds.

Using this cat Cougar on wood that had been Toleman in 1983 and had been changed removing the original top fairing for the cockpit which the crew standing in a modern one lowed for the seating - Gentry, Sammy James and the Eagle Turbos impressed all in the first race where they left behind the rest of the fleet.
An anonymous eighth place in the second round and a DNF in the third race relegated the strong American team to a fourth place in the overall.

Without proof the performance of Sal Magluta that seemed lost in the Aussie waters without the trusted cats of his team who had left home to purr.
His beauty but little used 41' Apache mono was in company with the official one of Kramer in the far rear of the first race.

Having recently purchased the unused fleet of Meynard, Kobayashi opted to bring the old and heavy mono 39' Cigarette also known as "bubble deck" that was originally of Billy Martin in 1979.
So for Bob Idoni was not possible to repeat the exploit of Melbourne in 1980 where with Meynard in a 38' Cougar cat made the right choice.

Despite little chance of victory the big and heavy mono 46 'Abbate / CUV of Bruno Abbate could count on reliability.
All three races ended and with a fourth place in the third gave the sixth place in the general.

Best of the fleet of mono proved to be with this 41' Apache the local Champ Graham Sutherland, who has made regular his performance with a fourth place in the second race.

Mededil, the cat of 33'(but the boat measured 27'4) designed and built by Buzzi's F.B. Marine Design with a pair of AIFO 2'9-liter turbo diesel was "a Mr. in Class 3 - good in Class 2 and in Class 1 could look smart. Even if not everyone could be able to drive it".
So he had to say, its driver, the Neapolitan Antonio Gioffredi. A class three that won the title of the 1!
Started the Buzzi age!!!

Near identical to Mededil was the Polli Sottaceti of Luigi Radice and Giorgio Villa, who managed to beat the feared and glorious Jesse James of local drivers Tebbs and Irvine.Probably if the old Chris Craft had also running the first race the Italians would not win but the fact of be finished second in the last two races and winning the first one shows that however deserve to win in the Class 2 Worlds.
