I'm looking at all my repower options and have a question.

Will a Gen 1V 454 stroked to a 468/496 perform as well and be as reliable as a Vortec 8.1? Both engines output will produce about 420 hp. The 496 stroker would be built with quality components. I'm also very interested in which one will provide the best low to mid-range torque.

Build your own with forged parts. Have RMbuilder set you up with a custom roller. With good exhaust you can easily get 500HP.

good ?.i was thinking the same thing.i am thanking the 454 would be alittle easy to find used parts,blocks mainly.maybe alittle cheaper even.

build yourself the 496 -the way you want it-and be happy! don't even
bother with the 8.1- non forged internals- and the heads just won't
do it for much over 450hp. you can build the 496 to put out 550/600
