Rapid Fire # 1"s - HP500's - Gap?
For all of you that use or have used the AC Delco Rapid Fire # 1's, particularly in HP 500's.
I am getting ready to try them for the first time in a marine application this weekend. Have used them before in auto & truck.
My question is, have you left the preset gap alone and installed at .045 or close them down to the Merc. specified .035. Says on the box to gap according to manufactures recommendation but want to know what some of you have experienced in real life in this application.

Set them at .035. I put them in mine this week and they really clean the plugs up especially in the mid to upper rpm's, so you will definately want to take a plug reading because you may have to re-jet.

I put them in at 35,,, still had soot on my transom,,,, I opened them up to 40 and it cleared up,,, I am going to keep an eye on them though so 40 isnt to much

Thats what I was thining,,, make a blast shut it off right there, throw the anchor and yank a couple plugs,,, a little early in the season to be hurting things !!!

I went with .35 the first time and it seemed to go longer without the high speed miss.when I took them to .40 the performance gain I did not notice and it seems they went half the time before the high speed miss returned.

I suppose that that is a possibility. I went to pick up a set of the AC Rapid Fire #1's at the local parts store, they were out of stock. I asked if they could cross the R43T or R43TS to the Rapid Fire. He had no book so the question now becomes is the Rapid Fire #1 hotter than the R43 per AC spec's or is it just a hotter plug due to it's design? Maybe I should just run the NGK VR5.
