Imco is more hydrodynamic, faster, on most set ups. It is less expensive than the sportmasters. Both of them use the same gears with mostly the same parts. The sportmaster case is very strong. Both have low water pickups, I like the sportmaster better because it will filter out larger debris. The Imco is available polished, satin, and black. Sportmaster, satin only. I think both are good units, nod for me goes to IMCO because of price and hydrodynamics.

ON A HIGH X DIMENSION FOUNTAIN I HAD WATER PRESSURE PROBLEMS WHEN I WENT FROM MERC 2 INCH SHORTIES TO IMCO 2 INCH SHORTIES. THE PICKUPS WERE MODIFIED WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM HOPE THIS HELPS YOU FYI.

The main difference is that the sportmaster has a longer skeg with more surface area. Any difference will depend on toe setting and drive deflection as well as the top speed being attained. With high drive heights, some boats don't handle as well with shorter skegs. If you already have sportmasters you could experiment with shortening the skeg, but it is difficult to go back!
