Default mercury control box, left or right side?

Do you all know if this is a port or starboard side control.
The seller has no clue and I cant tell from the picture. It's just what I was looking for (style wise) for a boat I'm restoring but he wants real money for it and it has to work on the port side for what I need.

Thanks

Pretty sure it is port side.It is also at least 30 years old, even tho it is new.If those trim buttons fail,or any parts fail, nothing is available from Merc. That control was not a very reliable unit.I would not pay a premuim price, doubt buyers are lined up for an old style port control, you are probrably the only prospect.just my 2 cents

Ya but it's the look of the whole thing that is needed in this case. Buttons are just 12 volt stitches. If it will pull and push a cable then I'm set. But the bottom line is it has to be universal or port side or it's not going to work.
Think the cables come out at that notch at the bottom?

You are correct, the cables come out of the notch at the bottom, which makes it a port side. The posiition of the Mercury decal and the position of the tach cable also show it to be a port side. This box uses Mercury old style cables but you can change the motor side ends if needed, the box side has to use Merc ends. No big deal,Teleflex has cheap adapter ends.
