If you get the crossover be sure you get one with the thermostat and bypass hose. My water pressure is good, I would check it first then add a pres relief if needed. Here is the one I use. http://www.eddiemarine.com/store/car...l&p=11552&c=40
Then you need the thermostat housing I use AN fittings http://www.eddiemarine.com/store/car...l&p=11564&c=52

I have the same motor. Just curious, what are you gaining by using a crossover in stead of the factory circ pump?

Default crossover

I have been doing some research and looking for a good crossover for a little while now and what I have found is that they are a bit on the pricey side for what they do and the hp gain you receive from installing one. On the flip side, they do clean up the motor quite a bit and eliminate one more moving part that can possibly fail. Personally, I like the kit that Cp performance sells and is the route I'm going to go when I order mine next week. It uses a 1" bypass hose (which means your exhaust gets plenty of water when the thermostat is closed and I believe it also might help keep the water pressure down when the thermostat is closed as well....but don't quote me on that). Unlike the other crossover systems I have looked into that you have to "piece together" by buying parts individually and/or have smaller bypass tubes.......this one comes with everything you need for $275.99

If you change it make sure you have a water pressure gauge. I have two and in IMO I think they are a PITA. I had to install reilef valves and a water dump. Pretty pricey just to clean up the engine compartment.

Mine came on the boat, I have purchase all the parts needed to put the circ pump back on If I chose to.

Just curious, where is the best location to install a relief valve and pressure gauge? Thanks, Mark

Relief valves are close to the cross over.
Pressure gauge is on the back of the intake manifold. I have problems with sand where I boat. Some put them on the block.

I have a crossover kit from Stainless marine with the thermostat bypass. It works great engine temp is real steady. I haven't checked the pressure though, but no problems in two seasons. I'm also running a Stewart thermostat which is a high flow unit with three holes to improve the response.
