Default Painting Plastic Engine Cover

I have seen many plastic covers of the 496s painted. They all had a smooth finish and I was wondering how this is accomplished. What kind of prep needs to be done?

Thanks for the help.

I have painted a bunch of them. Use a scuffing paste with a red scuff pad, scuff it up really good. Then use a plastic adhesion promoter followed by a few coats of high build primer. Once its dry block it out with some 320 and its ready for paint
