I posted this question in the propeller section and then remembered we have a Chris Craft section! I was hoping someone with a similar setup could offer me a little help with choosing a propeller.

I have a Chris Craft Stinger 222 with a 454 MAG (365hp) coupled to and Alpha Gen 2 drive - 1.47 ratio. The only thing done to the motor is a 224/236 .527/.553 cam and a full rebuild.

I have no idea where to begin as this boat came in many pieces and only had a small block before I picked it up.

Any help would be appreciated!

I would start with a 23p 3-blade and see how she runs and go from there. If you hit the limiter go up in pitch.

23P is a good place to start, especially with 1.47 gears.

I started out with a Mirage+ 25P and found it slow off the mark. I tried a custom 24p 5 blade which was alright, but you could feel the strain on take off.

I've settled on a 24p Bravo 1, I also have and run a 24p Rev4 which both go great. I have found the Stinger very responsive to 4 blades. I have a 5 blade Maximus I intend to try soon but I've tried both left and right 24P Bravo1s and they've been the best so far.

With the boat weight and a BBC, make sure you run a good drive shower (halo or top cap) or the drive won't last long.

my 87 222 originally had a 454 / alpha set up. Im pretty sure I still have the 3 blade and 5 blade props in storage. I cant recall the pitch offhand but think the overall performance was better with the 3 blade. I will get them out this weekend.

The problem with the 222's is they are tail heavy and tend to dig a pretty big hole while trying to get on plane.

The 222 I had (and now a friend runs) has had 350s, a 406, and 2 383. Horsepower all the way up to 450-470. It could pull a 25 or 27 pitch prop, but the problem was how dog slow it was getting on plane. If fact, with 4 people in it, it may not plane. Although I never tried one on it, I think I would try maybe a 4 blade 24 pitch.

The props that have been on it were 3 blade Mirages, a hydromotive, and I think a Rev4.

Short story is try a 22-24 pitch 4 blade.

couldn't locate the 5 blade but remember it said High five on the side.
the 3 blade has 48.11070.21 on the hub so I guess its a 21 pitch?

the boat now has a 496 mag/ bravo one and with a 25p 3 blade it planes very quickly.

I just reregistered with Offsore.com after 2 yrs away. I've had a Stinger 222 since '91 ... 1987 454 Magnum (which was 330 HP that year) with Alpha 1 ... I tried every prop you can think of. Best was the Rev4 21". But I also modified the bottom and took out the wegs on the step transom and added 16" Bennett Sport Tabs (doubble rams) just inside and under the swim platforms. These seriously helped the heavy stern when trying to get on plane with the added effect with the tabs being closer to center line than usual was like an extension to the waterline which makes the boat set better.

Ok RParadis how fast are you going gps speed.... Im running short on money to finish up my project and dont want to spend 1500 to 2k for k-planes .... Any body think running 85mph gps... I personally thing the bennitt sport double ram 16 long 12 wide will work.... Any thoughts people..... I have a 525 merc efi going in the boat....

for $1500-2k you can buy new at those prices!! If you look on ebay or the classified here you can score some 280 k-planes for between $300-$800 for a decient used set. I got mine for $300 for just the complete tabs but they needed paint. Had them sand blasted and painted and bought two used pumps off ebay for another $150 so overall i have a good looking set of tabs for under $500!

As Hollowpoint was saying... we've tried a number of props on the boat. Right now, I have the factory 21P Laser (my 350 Vortec backup motor is in the boat right now), but I've run up to a 25P Mirage Plus on it. The boat was very fast on the top end with the 25P, but an absolute pig to get on plane. More than two people in the boat? Forget about it! For all around use, I used a Quicksilver Laser 2 23P. Great prop, and still very fast.

I would love to try a 4-blade of some sort, but I need the 383 back together first. Not worth even trying with the 350 right now.
