I've never had the opportunity to fly in one, but they are available in many places on the used aircraft market.

You would be amazed at the ex-military aircraft in private hands. A4 Skyhawk jets are out there now, but the wildest I've ever seen was a F104 Starfighter that a guy brought to Sun-N-Fun in Florida about ten years ago!

Ahhhh, if I only had the $$$$$...

That's cool!!
What a ride that'd be.

I'd hate to see how much the annual inspections cost as well as the engine maintenance. How about engine replacement?

Let's see, it carries 334 gal of jet fuel and can fly 621 miles at 1.86 mpg. But it doesn't say what the cruise speed is.

Now if I could only hit the lottery........................

I can walk over to that plane in about 5 minutes from my office. It's bad ass.

jbrauer,

Funny you mention the F-104: There's a pilot who has a pair of those screamers based here at the St. Pete/Clearwater Airpport. I see him doing maneuvers every so often.

Lots of fun toys out there. But those damn six numbers just don't seem to fall into place.

Yeah, I know a guy near me who has a Russian Mig. Just for sh!ts & giggles. He flies it in our air fair every year. I would have to say that takes a close second to a big power boat.

I live near an airpark and there is a guy there with a Czech jet trainer similar to an F4. It moves out pretty good but he gets up and down pretty damn fast. We have been called out of the pattern so he could land-when he gets low on fuel he has to land RIGHT NOW!!!!
