Default I won't know unless I ask...valve springs on 088 vs hp500 head

Just bought a hp500 cam for my gen 5 502 with 088 118 closed chamber heads.I already have a gen 6 roller in it with retro fit lifters that uses the get 6 timing chain and retainer. What springs are on my heads vs the hp500 heads? I know the hp came with roller rockers but that's about all I know on the hp. I feel like I keep askin alot but if I don't ask I don't know. Thanks oso

Do you know if the springs were upgraded with the roller cam from the prior owner???

Do you have good exhaust now???? The carb HP500cam reverts water very easily at idle.

Stock HP500's came with Crane valve springs, but they pretty much sucked. The most common replacement spring is a Comp 929 or Isky 8205.
If you have stock springs, then they will need to replaced. If you don't know, then you are better off to replace them.

About the only way you will ever know for sure is to take them to an engine shop that has a spring pressure tester and have them checked out. Also be able to tell you how much lift you can run before they coil bind. Also just to let ya know them 088 heads are open chamber.

They had too much seat pressure for the cam and they would start breaking at 150-250hrs.

Do you have the EMI long risers and no silent chioice????
