Default Trim guage

This might be a simple question to some but what wire goes to the trim guage? I had to replace my transom this year and I updated all my guages as the boats guages didn't work when I got it last year. I have gotten everything back together and there are 2 sets of wires coming from the drive. 1 set is for the limit switch and the other set I was told is for the trim guage. The guage only has 1 spot for the sender on the back but I have 2 wires. What am I missing? I know it can't be that difficult I just haven't found a wiring diagram of the trim system showing it going to a guage.
Thanks

One wire should have a short brown sleeve on it. That one goes to the gauge. The other wire goes to ground.

There should be a small plastic terminal block somewhere around the back of your engine. One of the terminals on it will have black wires connected on it for grounds. The other terminal on it will have a brown and white wire on it. That wire goes up to your trim gauge. You connect the wire with the brown sleeve on that terminal. May not have a sleeve but some brown paint on it.

The brown wire is what the diagrams tell me but none of the wires have brown on them. They are all black and it appears that Mercury used less than stellar insulated covering as the insulation is flaking off. There are 2 sets of wires coming out of the drive. 1 set is the limit switch and the other set is the trim indicator. I have the limit switch wires going to the trim pump wiring. The other set of wires are just sitting there doing nothing. My wiring harness in the dash has no brown/white wire in it either, so I might have to run another wire back there and just connect to one and ground the other and see if it works?
