Approximate how many hours should a 496 and 525 expect a top end to be serviced?

If you are talking about a Mercruiser 496Mag or HO then the valve train stock should be good for 700-1000 hours with good service and use. On the HP525efi engines Mercury Racing recommends checking the valve train at about 200-250 hours I believe.
