I'm not sure of the average size but I've done the run in a 23' Baja and had a blast. Running in a 29' Velocity this year, finally got to move up a size.
Best guess for average size is about 35', but you'll be running with 23' all the way up to about 44'...

Do it if you can, it's a great event!

I have never been out on the ocean and it seems a little scary. How many miles it this poker run?

I don't think the actual stops have been posted yet and probably won't be known until the drivers meeting. Not to worry, this poker run is in the California Delta waterways (fresh water/river) no open/blue water to be concerned about. I think the run was just a little bit over 100 miles last year start to finish. We did it on a single tank of gas with reserve to spare. Of course if your running a thirsty engine there's plenty of places to get gas on the run. If I read your specs correctly your boat is made for this run...size ~ no problem, 496 HO no problem, you just need to sign up and make time to enjoy.
Nice to have a marine GPS/chartplotter, but not necessary. There's plenty of boats to follow and you can purchase a local waterway map available all over the Delta (be advised it's not a navigational chart but it'll help get you around). Check out this website to get an idea of local things to do and what the Delta is all about: http://www.californiadelta.org/ Recommend you get a room in Brentwood and launch the boat in Discovery Bay or if you like RV'ing check out Orwood Resort for a space. You could also stay at Windmill Cove Resort and Marina (http://www.windmillcove.com/), you'll just be a little bit further from Discovery Bay (but not by much). The poker run is on Saturday, so if you can take some time on Friday and Sunday to check out the Delta, It'll be worth the trip.

I have a 27' Team Hawaiian Powercat with Two Yamaha 200s.
We just got the boat and run it on Bass Lake. This event looks like a blast would our boat fit in?
