27 Canopy Help
#1
I was taking my 2008 27 Daytona to the boat launch on Sunday after Desert Storm and cracked my driver’s side canopy. They are Shields canopies. I called Eliminator and they said Shields are out of business and Areo Marine is my only option. I called Areo Marine and they want 4800 for the pair and Eliminator wants 900 to install them. Does anyone have a more cost effective solution?

I have 2 I will measure them if you like one is brand new from Aero Marine and one is brand new form Eliminator They are crated and ready to ship. the only thin is they are for a 30 Daytona not sure if they are the same deck if so I will beat the price of a new one by 40%. Check the thickness of yours and I'll let you know which one I have that will match.

I would concour. The inside shape is totally different and i am pretty sure the thickness is different as well. I remember looking at the difference between my canopies and yours when our boats were next to each other a few years ago.

I have one thick and one thin can not rember the thickness of each but the thick one came from Eliminator and the thin one is from Aero Marine. I had to order a pair also and only replaced one. So I kept the new one crated thinking someday someone would need it. The one from Eliminator was a carryover until the Aero marine ones were built.

bummer deal on the canopy. I just went thru this with my 30. The Aero marine ones did not directly fit. They needed lots of work to make them work. Long story Id prefer to put behind me at this moment and move on, but hope you can find one of the shields brand as it would likely fit the hull better and cause less install issues.

Correct me if I'm wrong but yours fit, your installer cracked them drilling the holes. Put the blame where it belongs as the canopies are fit to an Eliminator deck before they are shipped. Some boats are slightly different as the bulkheads can be taller/shorter and thus the deck is stressed in these areas but they fit when they leave. Eliminator can confirm this and this is why they use Aero Marine.
The holes were already drilled in the first set that was sent from aero marine. They shipped a used set of canopies. They were on a boat at Eliminator and the buyer decided they wanted clear instead of smoked. This is per Carmin (sp)
no new holes or anything of the sort wer ever done.It was asked why they didnt use different holes and attachment styles like the skater and DCB's. This was mis-communicated by aero marine. The real facts are this...
The installer and seller had a personal issue from the beginning regarding payment, it was never resolved and it some how became the end consumers issue. Once an issue with the product arose both blamed each other and ultimately blamed the consumer. All the way to blaming me for somehow striking the inside of the canopy with a hammer. After purchasing another drivers side canopy it was shipped with no holes at all in it.
no real discussion could ever be had, as the moment someone suggest there could have been a mistake made, aero marine would hang up the phone or start screaming profanities, very poor business ethics.
ultimately after going with a new installer it was found that new style drivers side canopy appeared too long to fit directly into the original mold of the 2002 hull. The newer canopies appeared to be longer than the originals and when measured they were 1/4" longer down each side. This creates no room for movement or flex of the hull. just my personal experience with them. As always results may vary. good luck to others that may end up in a similar situation.
