Default 1979 pantera 24 Imron paint job pics

Talked with a few of you over the past two years while I was repainting my pantera 24. After sanding the base clear down to the factory gel I primed the hull with U-TECH E350 epoxy primer. It's high build and sandable. After a ton of body work and block sanding I shot it in paper white Imron. Put the last two coats on soaking wet. It looks great! Here is a link to the photobucket link where I posted some pics. I plan on posting all the photos tomorrow.

Nice job, Sounds like we took similar paths. I have a 78 Spectra 32' that I did and am doing a lot of deck mods to and also going to be ready for paint soon. I've painted cars for years and a few boats however never used imron. I was told it can be difficult to spray and even more difficult to sand out after. Just doesn't lay out like your typical bc/cc or single stage systems. I would really like to use it for the hull sides and deck. Looking for a canary yellow or something simular. I am close to having the glass work done however it's obvious I don't do glass work for a living so will need a good strong durable filler. Overall I have it pretty straight. Been extremely fussy. What did you use? Plan on the same primer. Not sure if you got into much glass work for filler or not. Let me know when you can. I'll have to post some pics soon so you can see what I'm up against. About sick of itching and sticking to the pillow at night though. lol.. I actually enjoy the work. It's fun and rewarding as well.

Thanks,
John
PS I will find an old thread of my project and send it to you so you can see what I'm up against. I pulled it out of the shop yesterday for the first time after doing the mods and it's taking shape. Hard to see in the stall I do the work in.

I like it ALOT. I love the sharp lines and lack of side body lines on the older boat. Especially the Panteras.

Looks MUCH better without the graphics. EXCELLENT WORK!

I sure know what you are talking about! They are a ton of work. the imron I put on it was reduced 25%. Without the reducer it would look like total crap! It was not easy in any way. The u-tech e350 epoxy primer worked wonders. It goes on heavy and is sandable. Unlike all other epoxy. I took the time and set up my garage so that I could move all the way around the boat while painting it. the last two coats went on super wet. It's so nice now I don't even plan on buffing it. Thanks to everyone that has commented on her. I'm working on all my other parts now so I can paint them all with black imron. More pics to come.

So you didn't even wet sand it or rub it. Under normal circumstances with todays paint I didn't really plan to either however I thought with imron it was pretty much a given. no sags and it laid down good. By looking at the pics it sure looks nice. When using the e350 how much you dare use as a filler so to speak during your blocking stages. I know you can hide a ton of sins with primming and blocking however I just don't know the product real well and if stress or cracking becomes an issue over using a filler. I'm just wanting as little fillers and even primmer as possible but then again I don't lay glass for a living either. I have heard a lot of good things about the e350 and it's durability. Did you use any other filler/mud in the project? If so just curious as to what product. I am getting close to finishing my glass work and just wanted to pick your brain a little if you don't mind. BTW nice job again. Oh also what size "tip" did you use? That was the main thing I wanted to ask???? I may experiment a little before shooting. As mentioned earlier I've sprayed a lot of cars and some boats but just being honest and never sprayed imron but certainly not affraid to. Just want no mistakes. On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate durabilty over of imron over today's paints. In regards to scratching, scuffing and chipping. Just curious. If I recall my old saber was painted in an imron before I got it and seems like it held up very well however I wasn't involved with the process.

Thanks,
John

heres a little secret to reducing many automotive paints. Most finishes if sprayed reduced per instruction are very unforgiving and dont lay down worth a crap. The manufacturers typically recommend just enough reducer to get it out of the gun and on to the surface, just about everything i have ever sprayed need to be over reduced. The reason they do this is to get products to be VOC compliant and with less reducer recommended they can do this. Rule of thumb for me is mix to spray not to label. This rule applies mostly to clear coats and single stages not base coats.
