Default Gel Coat Crack Repair?

Was talking with my 3M rep today about repairing stress cracks, and he suggested using 3M #8115 after "v" out. We have used this product on truck hood repairs etc with great success. The boat in topic does have painted on graphics and the cracks are on the top side. One of my concerns is also a ghosting effect showing up. Has anybody tried this?

No I haven't however glad you started the thread. I can't see why if applied properly you would have any issues. Are the repairs mentioned behind the painted surfaces? Assuming not I would do as your rep said with v-ing them out with a dremel or something simular and do it in about 3 applications sanding in between just to take off the high spots and seeing where the lows are. If your trying to match the gel I think that can be done several places.

I've read that on some of the older boats, these cracks were caused by too thick of a gel coat. Mine has these cracks around most of the boat from the rubrail up to the top of the side..I read that in many cases, you can sand the gelcoat down, spray filler primer on it, then paint with awlgrip or something comparable(over simplified of course). It would take all summer for me to vee out every crack on this thing...Any opinions? Hope I didn't hijack the thread..

Are these impact cracks or stress cracks? Unless the cause of the cracking is found, won't they just show back up?

they will, it's from where the boat flexes, every boat can have them in different areas. Unless they are a real eyesore try to live with them as they are just top surface cracks in the gelcoat

usually found around windshields/compartment boxes and other sharp 90 degree bends in the boat

The ones on my Rogue actually seem to run the full length of the hull, from the rub rail up to the top of the gunwhale, with a few venturing onto the top of the bow..Looks like someone tried to paint once, but did a crappy job..Tri
ed to upload a pic, but not sure how to do that here..
