Default Question about a dipstick

Hey guys. Im finishing up on my new motor for my boat and I realized I have misplaced the oil dipstick and tube. Can I just use any one from an autoparts store or is their a marine specific part? I am almost done and am trying to get the boat in the water this weekend so ordering one is a last resort. Any help would be appreciated. Btw, its a 454 merc in a 91 VIP.

Thanx,

Sean

If you want to be able to change your oil by pumping it out through the dipstick tube, then you need the Mercury tube... It reaches to the bottom of the pan, whereas an automotive tube does not.

Any ideas where I can get one? I just need the tube as I was able to find the dipstick. I was thinking about making one out of brake line or something but I would need to know how long it would need to be.
Anyone ever remedied this problem? I am scratching my head on this one.

Local boat yard/repair place ? Local engine shop/machine shop that works on boat motors ?

Its a part available from Mercruiser I think, or try checking with 800runsnew which supplies new marine engines. When I bought my 454-HO crate motor, they supplied me with a dipstick kit.
