I'm no body/paint guy but I did a summer school & a body shop apprenticeship as a teenager back in the 70s. My boat is an 89 Baja Sunsport 196, not really an OSO boat but I run at my lake's 45 MPH speed limit in some chop at times. So I like to think I'm a junior go-fast. I'm a wanna-be and I lurk in here for ideas and to dream.
My boat has a very faint cloudiness at the stern sides along & below the waterline that I've been trying to remove. It has medium gray, white and claret red colors along there so you can really see the imperfection if you just look.
I've been compounding and polishing this boat in the spring the past three years, which is how long I have had it.
Today I got frustrated and went to the body shop supply in my town to get some 2500 grit thinking I'd wet sand it. Guy there got me to take home some Meguiar's 105 which is intended to remove 1200 grit or finer sanding marks.
I just wheeled out a panel on my boat with the 105 Ultra Cut & it's a lifesaver.
I had to go over the area 4 times but I never took the sandpaper out. The cloudiness is gone, it's nice and shiny and I expect to go apply some final polish and wax in the morning. I'm really happy, that was bugging the cr.p out of me.
So if you have some dark gel coat that needs some waking up and normal compound isn't making it, the Meguiar's is worth a shot.
I'm a believer.
