Default Riser to ex tip mismatch - how far can hose flex?

Well, here's the latest saga in the 489 project. Since the boat was originally set up with a small block, the exhaust holes in the transom are closer together than the usual big block pattern. I was test fitting a set of Gil's with silent choice risers, and as expected the end of the riser was about 1.5 inches out of alignment with the exhaust tips. The span is about 6 inches. I found a piece of exhaust hose that is about the right length and put it in place. Take a look at the pictures and let me know if you all think I will be all right with this setup, or if I risk burning through the hose. FWIW, I am not planning to run any type of water restricted exhaust, so there should be plenty of water going through them to keep things cool. Pictures below:

BTW, I am planning to get another piece of hose and cut it at an angle on each end so I can be sure to double clamp it.

Will work however not the most sanitary. short SS elbows made up to fit your app. Be sure and double clamp for the time being. Good luck...

I've seen worse.

Yep, not ideal, but as long as I can get by without sinking or burning down the boat I will let it fly.

I have a friend who works at a welding shop where they do a lot of stainless steel. I might have him weld on a set of offset tails on the end of the risers this winter.

You could also spring for some high temp silicone tubing that would be both more flexible and heat resistant. I've wrestled the big black hose before in short spaces, and you are never sure if the clamps really have taken on a short or misaligned fitting.

Are you talking about the kind of stuff that is used on tubo setups? I didn't think it would hold up to the higher exhaust temps. I would also worry about what would happen if I sucked up a bag and ran hot momentarily.

Do you have a link where it is sold? Thanks.

I've seen newer boats rigged with the silicone OE. Don't have any sites off the top of my head. I know you can get it with at least a 600 deg F rating.

A quick search reveals that the regular black marine exhaust hose is only rated at 250 F continuous. Here is an excerpt from Trident Marine's Web Page:

"While the highest quality black rubber exhaust withstands maximum continuous temperatures up to 250°F., some high performance engines emit wet exhaust at 300° to 500° F. Here only silicone rubber can be used."

P.S. Trident doesn't make any silicone hose, and they are saying that on their site.

For sure get the high temp silicone hose. It is a lot softer and won't stress your parts or burn out. I got mine through here: http://www.vikingterminal.com/ It is the trident hose in the above post. I don't think trident will sell direct.

Your right...I just looked at the pieces I had left over, and the shipping label was still on the box. Here is where I got mine from sir. Plus, I think they look nice.
