Default Throttle cables

How long due throttle cables last? Do they need to be adjusted at some point? I am fairly new to high performance boating. One of my motors is not topping out at what should be peak RPM. Curious if maybe its just not being pushed open all the way. Motor runs fine overall, prop is not damaged, fuel filter was just changed. Any info is appreciated.

Over time they can get stretched and need to be replaced. Push throttle and watch the cable at the carb and make sure it moves the whole way. Are your rpms off all the time or only at wot. They also can be adjusted by turning the nut in at the end of the cable making it shorter.
