Default new/rebuilt engine -new oilcooler=water oil mix

Ok, purchased a rebuilt engine with dyno time only(522 535hp/570tq), purchased new oil cooler for obvious reasons

Mechanic install engine etc, test fires and all good couple nites later finishes up misc items decides to test fire again and notices a small leak coming from one of the cooler fittings. No big deal remove and reseal but upon further inspection notices that fluid is oil and water mix-checks dipstick looks ok, removes oil filter all looks good and under neath valve cover cap a slight milky film. Oil cooler and lines are full of oil n water, so we are hoping its a defective cooler and not engine related.

He removed oil cooler last nite and this is his comments

"Well I thought I would see some oil residue on the water side of the cooler but none. I sucked out a lot a milky oil from lines etc. "

The part about some oil residue on water side.....I no we can pressure test cooler, I've already purchased a new one though and wanted some comments on what you guys think, head gasket? Or......any input or ideas. Thanks

clean out the lines, try bypassing the cooler for right now and run to get warm..change the oil, and then run on the hose for a while see if it comes back..

Could be a leaking intake, this will show up as milk in the valve covers. Sometimes when the heads are cut too much during a rebuild the intake ports will no longer line up properly, causes leaks. Also make sure he used "Perfect Seal" or a similar gasket sealer or they will leak at the water ports also.

Exhaust gasket! Unless your exhaust is new I would replace the gasket between the mainfold (lower section) and the elbow (top section). Water reversion wether its cam design or gaskets will fool the sh** out of you. The motor even when reverting some water can still run very strong, idle fine and never miss a beat. I just went thru this gasket ordeal, cost me alot of time and money! Hope my experience helps you.

Ya dont go ripping your motor apart like i did, i put a new cam in it and everyone had me chasing nothing, i changed a head gasket and intake manifold and it was all reversion i welded ss pipe 10" longer and milk in valve covers went away.
