What paint is used when painting trailers? Is it a car paint with base coat clear coat or is it a Epoxy style paint? My trailer needs to be repainted and when removing some of the old paint it didn't appear to be a base/clear system as it came off in chucks similiar to epoxy with a primer coat beneath it.

generally a good epoxy sealer and something like PPG's single stage DCC Concept.

Are these relatively easy to spray? I have done a little base/clear but it was on small projects that didn't really have the opportunity to show imperfections. I am just a novice so it doesn't have to be show quality but I do want it to hold up.

Yes there are easy to apply! After you sand the trailer apply 2 coats of DP50LF(ppg)sealer. I would let it dry for a hour or so. Then spray with a single stage Urethane Paint! as dave said ppg concept is a good one! we spray it all the time! The epoxy sealer is a must!!! Its a trailer you cant mess it up! well you might but it would be tuff! lol...
