Default Transducer mount location help

I have a 1998 212 Islander the old transducer was mounted on the outside when i purchased the boat it was bad. I have tried 3 times to mount the new one in the engine bay but they arent reading i even bought a new uniden with the adjustable in hull transducer no good either. I have read a few posts on here about a spot in the bay and saw a picture but mine does not have this spot. Looking for any help with this have tried it in the trough down the middle does any one have theirs there and does it work.

I have always used silicon on them put in like 4 in 2 diffrenet boats but this one just being diffucult. I am going to try and sand down all the way to the fiber thursday and place it towards the front of the motor again i did just lay it in there one day out on the water with water in the trough and it read same as when i held it over the side of the boat so i may just be getting air. Was just not sure if that trough was cored too i didnt figure it was since it is just below the water drain.
