Do they still use either to make hulls? I have heard of lite lay-ups etc but dont hear to much about kevlar or c.f. anymore

yes, but the hot buzz word is epoxy.

look at some race boats, you'll see a combo of kevlar, carbon, and epoxy.

Carbon fiber is Kevlar - Kevlar is the DuPont brand trade name for their carbon fiber. Its like saying give me a Kleenex even though it isnt a kleenex brand its still just a tissue.

Carbon fiber is no kevlar , kevlar is an Aramat fiber,which is just a superstrong fibre , Carbon fiber is like a component of steel in fiber form ,its also a conductor ,but bad ..
Carbon /kevlar can be bought as woven together as a 50/50 ratio ,I think this is what outlawten5 means ?

My 50' Hustler has CF over the stringers. I noticed this when I was cutting them for transmissions.

Yes- epoxy is the buzz words and an excellent build material process- however there seems to be a question of epoxy boats finish durability after years in the sun.
