hi
i have just purchased a 1995 22 ft velocity with a fresh 550hp 454.drive is stock and has a brovo 1 stainless 30p prop on it. talked to velocity and they said that that would be the prop that came on that boat.i know that this is not exactly the right boat for me but could not pass it up due to the buy i got it for.
the boat takes a while to plane and once the bow dropes the prop startes to cavitate if you dont slightly back off the throttle. also the boat gets very light on its feet very quickly..almost out of controle. what can i do to make the boat plane faster and feel safer.
somebody mentioned a drive extension. if that is a good idea how much of a spacer should i use.
thanks,

Are you giving it to much throttle and overpowering the prop. My cat blows out everytime just have to back out of the throttle and then get back into it. Just have to figure out the boat, once i get the boat on plane no problem. I have to get in and out of it 3 times, it sucks but you got to do it

Welcome to the site !!!!
I think you may have too much prop for the boat
Oh yea what he said about driving the boat, lay off the thottle planing off.
Give us some more details about the engine build, rpm numbers, gps speeds ext.....
Loose is fast just like NASCAR,

not looking for top speed on the boat. i know that it will run an easy 80 plus on 1 ft. need to pull a tuber or poss skier. like i mentioned wrong boar but want to make it work if i can.

If he is running 550HP out of a 454 then he will most likley have to spool it up to 6k RPM for peak power. It would be nice to have the build specs, the cam determines the RPM range.
