Talking Rebuilding 1992 Mercruiser 454. Anyone tried this kit?

I think someone from this board directed me to this bolt on kit.

What do you think?

$1100 for a bolt on 100+ horse sounds good.

My motor is bone stock right now.

I could be wrong but 100 + horsepower seems like an awful lot for just replacing the cam, intake & carb. I'd love to know what the specs are on the cam. You didn't say what size 454 you have but I'm assuming it's the 330 horse version. I'm currently doing the same mods on my 1990 454/330 but I'm also porting the peanut port heads & matching the intake port to the manifold. If I get anything close to 100 more horsepower I would be estatic !! Good luck & keep us posted.

Default I will get cam info.

Hey,

I will get that cam info and post it here.

Mine is also a 330horse.

As for the 100 horse upgrade. We'll see. That's what it says.

Summer is here and my boat has no motor in it.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrg

One of us is reading this wrong, When I 'put in cart' the cheapest it comes up is $2289.00. That's a far cry from $1100

Beware of this kit if it does not include new heads. I changed intake, carb, exhaust, and cam on a 330 motor and gained little. I changed the heads to rectangular ports and the beast awakened. The small oval port heads will not support a large power increase in my opinion. They are the limiting factor on this motor. Get new heads if you can afford it. Heads, Intake, carb, cam, and exhaust will get you around 100 horses. Call Ultradyne for cam selection.

Hey, I boght that book a couple weeks ago. Cool info in there.

As for piecing the kit together, I don't have all the model numbers/specs.

I think they keep them from ya so you dont just go buy it yourself.

With all the negative feedback on "KITS" I am thinking I will just put this back togehter stock for now. I don't know enought, even with the book, to make a custom upgrade decision. And furthermore, I can't afford to PAY someone else to do it for me. I have no problems building it, but if I have to pick which parts myself to upgrade I would be in trouble. LOL

So. Being that the motor is a 92, I should at least do a new cam and lifter set. Whether it be stock specs or not.

Any recommendations?

Everthing else is already off getting machined, HEADS, BLOCK, CRANK.

Thanks for helping me "THE NEWBIE"
