Default Looking at a 21' Lavey Craft

Hey guys, kind of new to the forum and looking for a little help as I may possibly be getting into a LC 21' XCS 454 Bravo. Just looking for a little help with this one as I'm not sure about a few things. The boat is a 1 owner 1999 and the hull and deck appear to be in great shape with the exception of a small dock rash on the rear passenger side. It probably wouldn't be too big of a deal for someone who knew what they are doing to fix. The boat overall just needs a good detailing. The part that I'm kind of concerned about is the floor. It's pretty soft back by the rear seat and up into the the ski locker door in the floor. I don't have a problem tearing it out and replacing given it's such a cool boat but just kind of wanted to see what you guys thought first before I take the plunge. Would you be really concerned about the boat in general? I was surprised that a 99 model would have a bad floor already.... Also, what do you feel would be a good price for a boat like this considering the condition? The family is getting out of boating so he's throwing a bunch of misc things in like skis, tube, vests etc... We don't these boats often at all where I live so that makes it a little more tempting for me to get into it and just fix the few things that it needs.

Here are a couple pics. Look forward to your replies. Thanks!!

Two things come to mind when I look at the pics. Why is there broken up wood in the compartment and why is the exterior so clean but the bilge, engine compartment and surrounding areas have mold, dust and dirt?
Soft wood is never a good sign, but if you had a boat appraiser look at it, you might find it is a small repair or a can of worms you don't want (rotted stringers ect). You will also know what price you could offer them. Small price to pay for piece of mind.

I know Lavey makes a very nice, solid boat but that rotten wood isn't good!
For sure take it to a marine fiberglass repair shop for a quote before buying it.

Super nice looking boat though!

In perfect shape that boats worth about 15k...but with that rot damage probably 10K'ish
My guess is you're looking at a min of 2k to fix the floor and who knows how high that could go but 5k isn't far off if it's extensive.

I sold my 1997 Baja w/454 for $12k last year to get a Nordic. I was asking 15k but the bottom and floor had soft spots I didn't know about. The guy took it to an appraiser who found them.
The appraiser said he'd be looking at $3-4000 so I lowered the price by $3000 and sold it. The guy took it in and only had the bottom done for $500, just so he could use it.
For now he's happy to have such a nice boat and a couple years down the road he'll fix the floor.

Thanks guys. He said he had a quote for $2k. He and his family seem like really nice honest people. The floor has a piece of wood in front of the back because of it being soft. The pic that shows the ski box is where I think maybe the support that hold the doors came off. Yeah, I definitely don't like the looks of it either. I've changed out stringers and a floor once in my jet boat when I restored it. I guess I'm just thinking to myself it may be worth it because of the fact that those boats are so hard to find up here in Michigan and it has pretty much everything that we want with size, looks and cuddy area and if I were to find one out west I automatically have $2k or so just to get it here. The floor might be something that I would tackle this winter with my friend that has restored a few boats. I can probably buy it for around $9800. As far as the engine it started up good and sounded good, just looks like he hasn't cleaned it since he bought it.

Isn't it normal for the trim oil reservoir to leak a little like in the pic?

Yes that's pretty common. A popular upgrade are sonic caps to replace the factory yellow ones. They come in a bunch of colors and all the online boat supply guys have them.

One of these days I'll pay these guys to upgrade my account so I could post a picture for you.
Actually if you go into the classifieds and search billet trim tabs you can see my purple ones on my Dana tab reservoir I have up for sale.

I just left you a message but I have to say after looking at those pictures again my guess is that boat was left out uncovered (or had a hole in the cover then it filled with water and sat for quite some time.

How many hours are on it anyway? Yeah a west coast custom out here is a cool thing to have and its a stepped hull. The seller will find out real quick though that the market doesn't bring what it would out west on it.

water test it and check compression, make sure everything works ,drive all gauges and electronics etc. if it all checks out good start at 8500 so you have money left to fix everthing, cash is king

Yep that is what I'm doing tomorrow. I have a friend with a 288 Sunsation that knows more than me so he's going to look. We'll try it out on the water and see if all checks out. I know that the trim gauge doesn't work but not sure on everything else. I will take cash with me.

Well, looks like the owner is set at $10k for now. Not seeing much out there for less than $20k either. Surely not within 1000 miles! lol
