Default buying a new oil pump!

any advice on a pump to buy

basically stock 502 with a bravo 1 in a 21 foot mirage

should i go with a m-55 or an m-77?
springs?

this is the motor that i just got a hv pump for and it was putting out numbers that scared me and after finding no metal in the pan or filter....... i think maybe it was the issue....

Carl,
Not sure what you mean by that ?? The M77HV really does not put out that much more pressure than the regular M77. There is a new Melling number available that comes with the screen already welded in place. I think it also has the high pressure spring in it. I have the number at the shop and will try to remember to look it up in the morning. I think the correct screen number is 305S Also, you can call George at Melling and he will get you straight on the correct oil pump to use.

What kind of numbers you talking about? I'm assuming high. My M77HV makes 80 cold and 45-50 hot. In just a stock engine you really don't need a HV pump. All they do is rob more power from the engine.

Is this a new engine that was just rebuilt? Did the builder block off the oil bypass or at minimum put in the 30lb bypass? I looked at your earlier posts and it seems you only have 4 hours on this engine.

Wink

Only pump to buy Melling 10778 or 10778C, no other stock bodied oil pump even comes close!
