Matt,

Very nice article. I missed a great event and will be there next year for sure so my offer still stands to ride in the AT!

Thank you.

Pat

Pat,

I am with you for sure in your boat next year. The only water I've been on in Virginia is Smith Mountain Lake, which is stunning. I imagine Jammin' on the James is a little less "scenic," but I doubt there is another run with more historically significant card stops.

Or a better dock party. All work and no play ...

Jamestown Island is obviously a significant part of history and every 4th grader in the region spends a day touring the site.......just 20 miles down river is what was one of the largest dormant naval reserve fleets in the US. It's now down to about 40-50 ships (from 120-130) but still impressive. Another 20-30 miles down river is Norfolk and the navy's most advanced ships are in port, I've seen as many as 4 aircraft carriers at once along with many other ships at dock (Norfolk IS the largest naval base in the world!!!)......the scenery is different, but just as majestic!!!!
