Hi Everyone, New to the site and am looking for some input on how to figure out what ratio and prop size to use for a Bravo 1 that is re-placing a Bravo 3.. The boat is a 20' Crownline fitted with the 350 Chevy and the Bravo 3 has a 1:36 and uses 26 pitch props.. I'm looking for more speed and tweak-ability out of the boat...

Something is wrong here. 1.36 gears, 350 engine and a 26" prop does not add up.

What kind of speeds are you seeing, and check your drive ratio. You should run 80 mph with that setup, and that will never happen.

Bravo 3 on small boats suck. Bravo 3 when chasing speed suck. My suggestions to you is pull the 6 bolts off and re bolt a bravo 1 with a 1.5:1 ratio. Try Craigslist advertising for a sale or trade. A lot of fishing guys that run bravo 1 get horny over the 3's as they're regarded for their fuel efficiency over the 1's. With any luck you could do a swap and get a b1 that hasn't been raped in a performance boat. Prop wise maybe start with a mirage 21 ?

Yeah, Thats the plan, bolt a Bravo 1 on in place of the Bravo 3. Just need some finding a decent set up to start with. I thought the B3 had the 1.36:1 ratio, and of course now the tags are gone off it (could of swore I wrote that n the manual when I got it) anywho with the 5.7LX I'm thinking a 1.5:1 B1 will work, but not sure where to start with prop pitch.

1.5 bravo, with a 22p bravo would be a good place to start. Lots of used 22p props available for cheap.

Why would you run such a large wheel on a small 20' boat with a small block? Also, bow lift is needed, and the Mirage+ would provide more on that boat than the B1. Not bashing here, just not sure I get your idea.

Anyway.

I would go with a M+, Rev4 or even try a LaserII. The latter will most likely be the fastest if that is what you want. But when changing ratio ect. testing is needed. But yep, the 21" area is the place to start with a 1.5 gear.

with that size prop the bravo three was probably a 2.0 ratio wich is most common.... bravo one at a 1.5 ratio and a 24pitch prop is probably where your going to be

i have sold many 202 crownlines and the bravo three works well on that boat,but the bravo 1 is definitly faster,the problem is crownline has a built in hook in there hull and they would change the x dimension to be aprox 2.5 inches lower with a bravo three over a bravo 1,if you can get the x dimension worked out you can see some signifigant gains.best prop we found was 21 laser good overall performance

I know the hook your referring to, it runs across the rear of boat but didn't realize that changes the X dimension. Hmmm, may be better off implementing plan B, which is selling it and moving up into a true offshore... :-) thanks for the input, and feel free to add some more.. I've had that crown for 15 years, its been a good boat, but I've always had that yearning: Bigger and Faster is Better !

No prob.... a good buddy has a very similar 22ft boat with a small block and runs the 22 bravo. He's very happy with the setup. Im sure there are lots of great options out there.
