I have been having an issue where the 496Mag in my 25OL will intermittently go into guardian mode(89% Power) and limit my RPMs to 4400. I bought the Rinda scan tool and had a few different codes stored so I cleared them all and ran the boat this weekend. On the third start cycle it finally repeated itself and threw the OIL PSI CKT LO fault.

My thinking is that the sensor is failing intermittently, not in its ability to read oil pressure b/c that would limit the boat to 0% power but It seems like the sensor may be internally shorting and pulling the voltage supply to ground. New to the 496 but I know from other high performance/vibration engines that the sensors can fail in this manner.

Seems I should be replacing the sensor but wanted to make sure I understood this correctly prior to spending the $100 on a simple oil pressure sensor. Any confirmation that Im on the right track or other info is appreciated. Also any tricks to reach that sender would be great, seems a little difficult to get at.

Just curious, is guarian beeping at you when it goes into reduced power mode? Or did you notice because you could only get 4400 rpm out of it?

I'll check the manual when I get home. I never experienced that code before.

No beeper, only the 4400RPM limit. Now since this doesn't make sense I have to assume that there is further troubleshooting to do with the beeper itself.

I do not know how long it has existed either. The boat was purchased this year from a woman who admitted never running the boat that far up in the RPM range. It had an awful prop setup on it and only after getting that figured out was I able to even turn the 4400RPM to find this issue.

You should be getting a 2 Bp/min alarm.

Cause: Loose connection, corrosion, open circuit.

Action: Inspect circuit, Repair or replace harness, replace sensor.

It's probably the sensor.

Appreciate the confirmation. Have the sensor on its way as we speak. Anybody have any tricks to make replacement easier?
