Default OT.. Buying a car on ebay... Rochester, NY

What have people's experiences been in this arena? We are looking at a pristine 1988 IROC-Z for $10,500. Is there anyone in the Rochester, NY area that may could take a look at it for us? Please let us know.

I just dealt with John Creel of the Montgomery County (MD)Division of Consumer Affairs with regards to a car bought on e-bay. Things did not exactly work out well for the buyer. The car crapped out halfway from Bethesda to New Jersey. The buyer had the car towed back to Bethesda and was stuck with a $400.00 towing bill. John Creel has been featured about four times on DateLine NBC for dealing with "curbstoners" - people that sell used cars in shopping mall parking lots and on-line. It is usually "buyer beware" unless you get some written warranties about the condition of the car or its fitness for future use in writing. By the time you travel to NY from Virginia, pay for a hotel, etc.., you may end up paying the same amount out of pocket if you purchased a similar vehicle in this market. If your only remedy is providing negative feedback about the seller if things do not work out, you have to ask yourself if that is sufficient protection for your $10,500.00 investment.
