Default imco or sportmaster lower unit vs xr lower unit

Hey Guys

I am looking to replace my XR lower units for an imco or sportmaster lower units my question is will changing to either one of them make me lose top end speed i have twin 525's on a cigarette i have heard of some people complain that they are loosing top end speed my fear is to invest the money and lose top end speed. any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated

Sportmasters have a much larger skeg so yes, you most likely will scrub some speed at top end. What are you looking to correct or accomplish by moving from standard XR lowers?

Imco lower is faster than an SM lower.

I am looking to get a little more top end speed but i am looking to see if it is worth the investment.

I went to a 2" shortie sportmaster and picked up 4 MPH. Everything I have heard since says the Imco shortie would probably do better.
