Default 502 mag weird starting issue

on my 96 502 mag it will crank and not start or fart or anything but if i spray some gas into the intake the engine will start and continue to run and i can drive it fine until i shut it off. it does this cold or hot

Might be time for a new fuel pump.

Fuel pump or it might be drawing air around a fuel fitting which won't let it prime up. I had the same issue with a motor in the boat except it would run on the gas that was poured in the carb and then cut off. Once I redid all the fuel fittings no more issues.

thanks guys for the replies turns out it was the fusable link that supplies the computer power from the starter. it was broken so i guess with the added voltage drop while cranking the bad connection was giving the computer too low of a voltage.
