This is from the KOTV web site. It looks like the feds know best. Do you really think that there is going to be a major flood event in August!!!!!
VINITA, Oklahoma -- The Grand River Dam Authority says its request to avoid lowering the level of Grand Lake this August has been denied.
GRDA made the request in April. It asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a temporary release from the requirements it has to meet as part of its license to operate Pensacola Dam and Grand Lake.
Since 1996, the license has required GRDA to lower the lake's elevation in mid-August to facilitate a millet seeding project on exposed mudflat areas of the lake.
GRDA wanted to delay the draw down until after the 2011 Labor Day weekend. It also wanted to permanently change the requirement until further modeling and studies could be completed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
According to a news release from GRDA, the draw down was originally implemented for wildlife habitat reasons, and not flooding concerns. But GRDA says FERC indicated a study on the upstream flooding potential would need to be completed before it would consider granting the request, even on a temporary basis.
According to GRDA, such a study would need to be completed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. GRDA had requested that assistance from the Corps earlier in the year. However, in mid July, the Corps said its current work load and lack of available staff forced it to deny the request.
Due to the FERC dismissal of the temporary relief request, GRDA will proceed with the draw down next month.

For some reason FERC has had Grand Lake and/or GRDA in their cross-hairs for a while now. And what has it brought the people who live, work, and play on GLOC? More bureaucratic headaches. I'm all for responsible management of the lake. I want my kids to be able to enjoy it as much as I have. However, at some point too much government, and too many regs become a serious obstacle. It seems like this all started with flooded properties in Miami, and the repeated monies paid to the owners of those properties. So the tail wags the dog?.....ahhhhh...anyhoo all I'm saying is I need a beer.

Not at all surprised by this so called decision by bureaucrats in Washington or wherever their office may be. Seems like we are getting hit from all directions on this. Just look at all the BS the ecosystems group is causing the people who had docks damaged or destroyed this year, not to mention their "over reaction" on the 4th of July! Bureaucrats with an axe to grind I guess!!

SMP Highlights
• Ordered policy on encroaching dwellings
• Ordered policy on nonconforming structures including existing and permitted decks, patios, gazebos, boat houses, etc.
• Ordered policy not specifically grandfathering any pre-existing and/or permitted structures
• The strong recommendation that these structures be removed from project lands
• The future prohibition of decks patios and gazebos
• The inadequate amount of time (May of 2012) given to inventory, evaluate and present information to FERC on these matters

I just wish that these people that make these decisions used our lake and tore up some of there trailers from the lake being so low and dropping off the end of the ramps. I bet some things would change pretty quick.
